The MK Awards 2013

Last night saw it all come together after months of preparation and a few weeks of fan votes, the 2013 MK Awards hit Pretoria, and hard!

If you missed my live tweets straight from the event itself, here is the complete list of winners:

  • Best Video: Van Coke Kartel - Tot Die Son Uitkom
  • Best Newcomer -: Gangs of Ballet - Hello Sweet World
  • Best Group -: Van Coke Kartel - Dis ‘n Land
  • Best Solo -: Jeremy Loops - Howling
  • Best SFX/Animation -: Haezer ft. Lark - Brave
  • Best Dance -: Johnny Neon - Hearts
  • Best Rock -: Van Coke Kartel - Dis ‘n Land
  • Best Indie -: Shortstraw - One Long Day
  • Best Live Act -: The Black Cat Bones
  • Best SA Music Festival -: Oppikoppi 2012

Some memorable moments had to be Super Duper Shane OWNING that stage as a presenter and the lovely boys from Shortstraw in my opinion had the bestest acceptance speech.

The Best Newcomer winners, Gangs of Ballet were not in town to accept their award themselves. So we may or may have not used their award as part of a drinking game. They will never know…

For those wondering, yes the MK Award itself can be used as a paper weight, or a door stopper or if you need to put some muscle on those puppies, they work well as gym weights! I had to have Matthew Mole help me hold BEST SOLO winner Jeremy Loops‘ award.. With Jeremy himself making sure Matthew doesn’t fall over…

We can all have the discussion/debate about how the awards work, blah blah,  when it comes to the judging of it all, BUT the reality is this:

All these musicians who won and those who were nominated AND those who did not make the nominees list need your support. Buy their music. GO to their shows. Show them the support!

My friend Texx has the same sentiment, read her 2-cents on the awards.

All in all the night was a great night filled out with an INCREDIBLE production when it came down to it all. A massive HIGH-5 to EVERY SINGLE PERSON who made last night possible!

Here’s to the next awards…in my friend Jean Jordaan‘s *voice*, See you at the bar…
